17 Best Romantic Weekend Trips from Kaiserslautern

Looking for ideas for special romantic weekend trips from Kaiserslautern, Ramstein, or anywhere in the KMC area? My husband and I have done the test drive, and picked our favorite romantic getaways – everything from impossibly charming medieval towns, to luxurious spa retreats, to the heart of champagne and wine country, to bigger cities with fabulous culture and great dining!

In this article you’ll find 17 destinations that will set the stage for your perfect romantic weekend trip from Kaiserslautern including: travel times, the best way to get there, all kinds of suggestions for romantic activities, and weather forecasts to help you plan. And all these locations are within 4 hours of home base!

What You'll Find in this Post

1) Paris, France

2.5 hours by train, 4 hours by car

Why Paris?

Let’s start with arguably the most romantic city on the planet – Paris, the City of Love! For centuries Paris has inspired artists, writers, and lovers. You could spend many romantic weekends in Paris and still make new discoveries!

Romantic Things to Do in Paris

❤️ Take a dinner cruise on the Seine River, float under stunning bridges, and watch the Eiffel Tower sparkle!

We’ve taken dinner cruises with music on Bateaux Mouches, and Diamant Bleu (a livelier vibe). Both had great food, good facilities, and set the mood for a fabulous weekend!

💗 Visit one of Paris’ many incredible museums like the Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay, L’Orangerie, the Rodin Museum, or the Cluny.

❤️ Have a cheese and wine tasting experience in Monmartre.

💗 Browse the shops in the covered passages, and the antique/flea markets open on weekends!

❤️ Experience beautiful cathedrals, churches, and stained glass at the newly reopened Notre Dame cathedral, the Sacre Coeur, or the drop-dead gorgeous Sainte Chapelle.

💗 Get a highly-rated private photo shoot near the Eiffel Tower!

❤️ Stroll along the Seine, and check out the bouquinistes – booksellers of used and antiquarian books and rare vintage postcards and prints who sell their wares in stalls along the river.

💗 Catch a performance at the legendary Paris Opera, the Moulin Rouge cabaret, Le Trianon or Le Théatre Châtalet – or maybe one of Paris’ famed jazz clubs!

❤️ Visit Montmartre for romantic bohemian charm and breathtaking views, and Le Marais district for boutiques and galleries, and a taste of medieval Paris.

💗 Indulge in a fancy candlelit dinner at the epic Le Train Bleu, or a romantic bistro like Le Moulin de la Galette.

Best Way to Get from Kaiserslautern to Paris

Consider taking the train unless you are a seasoned, steely-spined driver. Driving in Paris is a challenge, and traffic happens a lot. A train ride is much more romantic than white-knuckling it in crazy Paris traffic! And if you catch the ICE train from Kaiserslautern’s main Bahnhof you’ll be there in 2 and a half hours, saving an hour and a half of drive time each way!

The ICE train will take you right from the Kaiserslautern main train station and drop you at La Gare l’Est (with one stop in Saarbrucken) from where you can take public transport, taxi, or an Uber to your hotel.

Travel Tips

Bring your blue tourist passport because they will check it on the train.

If you drive, you must obtain a Crit’Air sticker for your car.

Also stay aware of your surroundings and keep your passport, wallet, and bag secure, especially on the train, in the metro stations, or near tourist centers. Keeping luggage in sight at all times, and using anti-theft cross-body bags are the way to go!
