Best Overall: Hôtel Léonor
We thoroughly enjoyed Hôtel Léonor, and the location was the standout: Rue de la Nuée Bleue puts you a quick walk from the cathedral, Place Kléber, and the river, in a restored 18th-century building built around a large interior courtyard which provides al fresco dining when the weather is good.
Our room was elegant and well-appointed, with a coffee maker (not a given in European hotels), and the whole hotel carries the same polish, right down to the lobby decor. The in-house restaurant and bar are absolutely worth booking on their own, and breakfast is closer to a proper boulangerie spread than a standard hotel buffet. Helga the frenchie approved of the red velvet fainting sofa in our room!
Parking is not directly on-site, but available around the corner in the hotel’s garage for 35 euros a day. It’s about a 2-minute walk, and it has to be booked in advance, so plan ahead if you’re driving in. The train station is about 900 feet away.
Hôtel Léonor sells out during peak season both in summertime, and during the Christmas market, so be sure to book early. The staff is courteous and professional, and speaks French, German, and English.

Best for Families or Budget-Conscious Groups: Appart’City Confort Strasbourg Centre
When we booked a trip to Strasbourg on short notice during the busy season, our options became very limited. Location was still the most important factor, and Appart’City turned out to be the answer! It worked well for the whole crew: the two of us, our grown kids, and the dog, all in one large room without blowing the budget, and in a great location.
It’s set up like an apartment rather than a hotel room, with a kitchenette that includes a dishwasher, full kitchenware, and a fridge which was handy for stashing all the market food we brought back each day. Our unit had two twin beds and a small sofa bed; we took the sofa bed with the dog, and the kids had the twins. Sofa beds are never going to be the most comfortable mattress you’ve slept on, but for the price and the location, it was a fair trade.
The property is clean, quiet, close to the Old Town, and there’s a small green space out back for dogs. Staff was even friendly enough to send us off with a bottle of Christmas beer at check-in!
Parking is available in a nearby garage with advance reservation. There is also street parking available if you’re lucky. It’s about a ten-minute walk to the main train station, and there’s a tram stop literally right outside the front door. We’d absolutely recommend it for a good basic apartment-style accommodation, with all you need to enjoy the city and make yourself at home.

Best Historic Stay: Maison Kammerzell Hotel & Restaurant
If you want to sleep inside a piece of Strasbourg history rather than just admire it from the street, this is the place! The building dates to 1427, with Renaissance additions from the 16th century, and it’s one of the most photographed half-timbered structures in the city, right on the cathedral square. The first time I saw it, my jaw dropped.
We’ve eaten here too, the wild boar stew is one of our better food memories, and it made the list in our 17 Best Romantic Weekend Trips from Kaiserslautern as one of our favorite spots for a candlelit dinner in the city. The rooms upstairs carry the same old-world character: exposed beams, charmingly uneven floors, and views straight onto the square. It’s even right next door to the Strasbourg Tourism Office.
There are only nine rooms here (so book well in advance), reached by a 16th-century spiral staircase, and each one has its own character rather than a matching hotel-chain layout. Rooms are blissfully soundproofed, which matters given the location right on a busy square with cathedral bells, and rates run in the mid-range, below Léonor and well below a five-star property, so it’s a reasonable splurge for the history rather than a major one.

Best for Drivers: Maison Rouge Strasbourg Hotel & Spa
If you’re coming into Strasbourg by car (especially if it’s anything bigger than a compact) parking is usually the deciding factor of where to stay in Strasbourg, and this is the property that solves it. Maison Rouge has its own on-site parking lot with EV charging ports, only about 0.3 miles from the cathedral square. It’s a five-star property with a spa and gourmet dining on-site, so it’s a step up in price from Léonor, but for anyone who really doesn’t want to deal with reserved off-site garage parking, it’s worth the difference.
Rates sit at the accessible end of Strasbourg’s five-star tier, on par with the city’s other luxury options, so this is a genuine step up from the other three picks.
