Traveling in Europe with a Dog
Practical guides, honest hotel reviews, and hard-won tips for exploring Europe with your dog.
Traveling in Europe with a dog takes more planning than a solo trip, but it’s absolutely worth it. My French bulldog Helga has been to more European cities than most people, and she’s taught me most of what’s on this page the hard way, usually by being a reactive Frenchie in situations that called for a much calmer dog.
Every guide here comes from something we actually ran into on the road: flight rules that weren’t clearly posted anywhere, a hotel that said dog-friendly but meant something different than we expected, a packing list built from what we forgot the first three trips. If you’re planning to bring your dog along on a European trip, these are the real answers, not just generic advice.
For the official rules on bringing a pet into the EU, the European Commission’s pet travel page is the best starting point before you book anything.
