Are you looking for a truly unique place to stay that’s literally right in the back yard of Versailles Palace? Let me tell you about the place that turned our trip from memorable into genuinely unforgettable.
In this post, I’ll tell you everything you need to know about the Waldorf Astoria Trianon Palace, Versailles – whether it’s worth eating there, how they treat your dog, whether it’s good for a special occasion, and all about the grounds and amenities.
The Hotel That Made Us Feel Like Royalty – Dog Included
My Waldorf Astoria Versailles review began the moment we pulled up and my husband David looked at the building and asked, completely seriously, “Wait, is this the hotel or part of the palace?”

That tells you everything you need to know.
The Waldorf Astoria Trianon Palace is in fact a palace in itself, and sits literally next door to the Palace of Versailles. And it is exactly as magnificent as that sounds. We stayed in the Trianon Pavilion, the four-star building on the property (there’s also the five-star Trianon Palace itself), and I can tell you without hesitation that it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed.

And they welcomed our French bulldog Helga. And gave her monogrammed silver bowls. But I’m getting ahead of myself.
Arriving at the Waldorf Astoria Trianon Palace
Book the most incredible hotel right next door to the palace of Versailles
We arrived to find our room already prepared with a surprise my husband had arranged ahead of time — roses, champagne, and chocolates waiting for us when we walked in. It was our anniversary, and the staff had executed it perfectly without a single hint being dropped in my direction. If you’re planning a special occasion, call ahead. They know how to make it happen.

The Pavilion rooms are not enormous, but they are perfectly proportioned – comfortable, elegant, and thoughtfully appointed with a desk and multiple sitting areas. What takes your breath away is the window. Floor to ceiling French doors open directly onto the manicured hotel gardens, and beyond them, framed like a painting, is the main Trianon Palace building. We could also see the Palace of Versailles grounds from our room. On our second night, we watched the Bastille Day fireworks exploding over the palace gardens from that very window, champagne in hand. I mean.
Even Helga enjoyed watching the fireworks, and forgot for a second that she was a dog.

The Gardens
I want to talk about the gardens because they were an unexpected joy and a significant part of why this stay felt so special, particularly with Helga in tow.
Just outside our room, manicured garden paths wound beneath trellises of blooming red roses like something out of a dream. The grounds are immaculate, fragrant, and completely unhurried. At one point I nearly walked into a gardenia bush in full bloom and had to stop and just stand there for a moment. If you know the scent of gardenia, you understand.

For us, having green space immediately accessible without having to navigate city blocks was genuinely meaningful. Helga could wander, sniff, explore, and be a dog – which she did enthusiastically, including at one point mounting a garden sphinx sculpture for what I can only describe as a power pose. We have the photo.

David heroically “saved” an enormous flower-covered urn that was listing slightly to one side. In other words, we not only had a supremely elegant and relaxing weekend, we also had a lot of fun!

The grounds also hide a remarkable geological secret – fossil limestone tiles near the entrance, embedded with ancient shells. I have a close-up photo and it is genuinely extraordinary. Keep your eyes down as you walk in.

Helga’s Royal Treatment
Let me tell you what the Waldorf Astoria Trianon Palace did for our French bulldog:

They provided a grey velvet dog bed. Silver bowls engraved with the Waldorf Astoria name and logo. And of course we had to share our special anniversary bounty, so Helga received a strawberry.
She ate it with great enthusiasm and zero surprise, as though this was simply her due.

She slept in the velvet bed, explored the rose garden, posed in the garden, and was welcomed everywhere on the property with genuine warmth rather than the thinly veiled tolerance some “pet friendly” hotels offer. If you travel with a dog, you know the difference. This was the real thing.
Dining at the Waldorf Astoria Trianon Palace
La Veranda — Cocktails, Caviar & an Outdoor Grill
Our first evening we settled into La Veranda’s outdoor terrace for cocktails as the light faded over the gardens. I had the Améthyste — violet, elegant, exactly right. David had the Maverick.
The kitchen had set up a magnificent outdoor grill, chefs in their whites working it with the kind of calm expertise that signaled serious food, not backyard BBQ. We had fully intended to have dinner but ended up lingering over cocktails, caviar, and dessert, watching the evening unfold. No regrets whatsoever.

Gordon Ramsay au Trianon — Dinner Worth Dressing For
Our second evening we had cocktails in the hotel bar, which is stunning in the way that only a Gilded Age room can be stunning, and then dinner at the Michelin-starred Gordon Ramsay au Trianon. I got scallops, he got steak, and I can tell you it was wonderful, that the room is beautiful, and that if you’re going to splurge on a dinner in Versailles this is the one.
Breakfast
The breakfast buffet deserves its own sentence: it will knock your socks off. That’s all I’ll say. Go in hungry.

Here’s something most hotel guests walk past without noticing: there is a plaque on the wall of one of the dining rooms marking the spot where the Treaty of Versailles, the agreement that ended World War I, was drafted.
A Piece of Living History
The actual working sessions that shaped the end of ‘the war to end all wars’ happened in this building. I stood in front of that plaque for a long time.
The lobby and entrance halls are themselves museum-worthy with black and white marble floors, soaring ceilings, Murano glass chandeliers. The building is not just near history. It is history, and gorgeous to boot.

Practical Details
Location: Literally adjacent to the Palace of Versailles. Walking distance to the palace entrance, and a pleasant ten-minute walk to the RER C station for trains to and from Paris. There is also parking on site if you’re road-tripping. The map below shows how incredibly close you are to the Palace of Versailles.

The buildings: The property has two buildings – the five-star Trianon Palace and the four-star Trianon Pavilion. We stayed in the Pavilion. The advantage of the Pavilion is that your view is of the Palace building itself, and you enjoy all the same amenities, restaurants, and grounds as the Palace guests.
Points: This is a Hilton property, which means you can use Hilton Honors points. If you have them, this is absolutely the place to spend them!
Pricing: Rates vary significantly by season with peak summer weekends around Bastille Day the most expensive time of year. Booking outside peak season could make this considerably more accessible. Check current availability and rates below, and definitely book early.
Dogs: Yes, enthusiastically. Grey velvet bed, silver monogrammed bowls, gardens galore. Helga approved.
Spa: Did I mention there’s a Guerlain Spa with a heated indoor swimming pool and a hammam? Because, yes.

Waldorf Astoria Versailles Review: Is the Waldorf Astoria Trianon Palace Worth It?
We stayed during a promotional rate and it was still a splurge. At peak season rates it can be a significant investment. But here is what I know:
We spent two days genuinely enjoying the property. We walked the gardens, watched fireworks over the palace from our window, ate and drank beautifully, and felt genuinely restored. Helga ate strawberries and slept in a velvet bed. David saved a urn. I found a gardenia. And these little small memories were all made possible by a truly incredible property.

For a special occasion like an anniversary, a milestone birthday, that trip you’ve been promising yourself – there are few places in the world that deliver this combination of history, beauty, luxury, plus a genuine welcome for your dog.
If budget is a concern, look at the Pavilion over the Palace building, travel outside peak season, and use your Hilton points if you have them. If budget was not a concern, I could live there. But however you get there, get there.
