Traditional Polish
1. Pierogarnia Stary Młyn
Zamkowa 7, Poznan
Every time I’m in Poznan, this one is at the top of my list! Pierogies are traditional polish dumplings with fillings ranging from savory to sweet, and if you’re not addicted to them already, you will be after eating here!
Pierogarnia Stary Młyn somehow manages to have the best of both worlds – plenty of seating, but also a really homey and cozy atmosphere with lots of wood, and soft lighting. The building is a historic tenement house from 1880 which served as a gathering place for writers, poets, philosophers, and activists, and you can almost feel some of that spirit alive in this place.
Attire is casual, and the wait staff is attentive, friendly, English-speaking, and happy to help you navigate the menu which features a plethora of pierogis – savory and sweet, baked or boiled, from all regions of Poland. There’s a real emphasis on sourcing high-quality local ingredients and it shows.
You can choose to thoroughly enjoy one style, or do a mix-and-match to sample as many as possible. The menu is almost overwhelming with choice, but you really can’t go wrong with two Polish traditional classics cottage cheese and potato. I get mine boiled with a side of caramelized onions and sour cream. I ordered nine pierogies the first time and I thought they were going to have to wheel me out on a cart! Five has been my go-to since then and I make sure to slow down and savor every filling and delicious bite.
The interior of the restaurant has pierogies everywhere. Every detail from the railing to the check holder has a pierogi theme. But don’t let all the kitsch and slightly touristy vibe fool you. This is the real deal, and a fabulous choice whether you’re dining alone or entertaining a group.
They have limited outdoor seating as well, with tables for two or four people. And they are dog-friendly!

2. Wiejskie Jadło
Stary Rynek 77 /wejście od, Franciszkańska, Poznan
This gem, located in the Old Town of Poznan (Stary Rynek) offers a relaxed, warm vibe, and dishes up traditional local and regional cuisine including pierogi, soups, potato dishes, stews, and roasted meats. If you really want to feel like you’ve had a true Polish experience, this is your place.
It’s inconspicuous from the outside, especially in winter, but worth your while to seek out! It’s also convenient to the Market Square area, and it’s a great spot to wrap up your day visiting Poznan.
The dark wood interior and large menu featuring tantalizing comfort food from beginning to end sets the tone. The staff is friendly, but also very busy at peak times! They also speak English, and can offer you an English menu.
Portions are ample, but they do leave you with a little room for dessert (blueberry dumplings anyone?), and there are several vegetarian selections as well. And try some local wine or beer, and their signature cherry liqueur after your meal!
This place is great for groups of people and families. It’s one of those places you will definitely remember. The atmosphere is convivial and lively without being overwhelming or too loud. And in the summertime, outdoor seating is also available.
Definitely call ahead for a reservation for this one. It’s popular with visitors and locals for a reason! +48 61 853 66 00

3. Restauracja Concordia Taste Poznań
Zwierzyniecka 3, Poznan, Poland
Of all Poznan Restaurants, Restauracja Concordia drops my jaw every time.
Located just behind the Poznan Sheraton where I often stay, I’ve been here several times. The last time I went, I brought my daughter and was eager to see what this new graduate/Culinary Arts major would think of this special place.
Here’s a piece of her Google review:
I wish I could rate 10 stars. This restaurant is the highlight of my trip to Poland and served the best food I have ever had. We had to come back a second time for dessert and coffee because it was so wonderful.
-My daughter’s Google Review
For dinner I had the boletus soup with saffron milk cap, mushroom pate, and fermented milk, and the veal with veal liver, chanterelles in butter, potato sauce, potato flan, and pumpkin and peach chutney. The mushroom soup was a delight, with fresh and rare mushrooms and a wonderful hearty broth. The mushroom pate was a great addition and the texture was perfect with the soup. The veal was an absolute showstopper. The meat was mouthwatering, perfectly seasoned and juicy and tender. I could not stop eating. The savory rich sauce and the fruity chutney balanced so well, and the potato flan was the perfect thing to soak up every drop.
For dessert I had the chocolate pinecone filled with mousse and marinated spruce shoots, white chocolate boletus mousse, baby pinecone pickled in elderflower vinegar, spruce sorbet, acacia gel, and a chocolate cone. Do not miss this dessert if it is on the menu when you go! It is so unique and perfectly balanced, it is obvious that the chef and the kitchen staff are very creative and talented. I also tried the roe deer and the roasted butter ice cream over chocolate mousse cake ordered by my tablemates and they were incredible as well. It was more than a meal, it was an unforgettable experience of art, culture, ingenuity, and wonderful service.
The staff was so lovely and accommodating. We had a large party and we weren’t able to arrive at the same time, but the staff was so gracious and bent over backwards to make sure we had a seamless, comfortable, relaxed experience the whole way through. They answered all of our questions and truly went above and beyond to make sure we had the best experience.
I forgot my hat there the second time we went, and we had to leave Poznan in the morning before they opened. I figured I would see if anyone was there who could check for me, and of course the staff was already hard at work hours before service making the magic happen. The whole staff went out of their way to pause preparation, let me in, and help me look for my hat. I was truly grateful to get this sentimental item back. It was a privilege to eat here, and if you visit Poznan, do not miss the opportunity. Thank you to the whole staff of Restauracja Concordia! I will never forget my visits!
I’m not sure what I could add to top this. The bottom line is that if you’re a foodie and looking for something extra in Poznan, this place will be a dream. Unusual, creative, high-quality local fare, each dish is an absolutely memorable work of art.
There’s also a very nice outdoor seating area, but inside is modern and elegant and has an open kitchen, so you can’t lose.

Vegetarian
4. Restauracja Nadzieja
Zwierzyniecka 3/1, Poznan, Poland
You’ll find many Poznan restaurants that have several great vegetarian or vegan options, but Nadzieja’s menu is fully dedicated to vegetarians and vegans. Nadzieja’s vegetarian and vegan menu features Polish, European, and some Israeli dishes. The atmosphere is clean and modern on the inside with a really nice sun terrace for outdoor dining.
Neither my husband nor I are vegetarians, but the place looked intriguing and we had to check it out. Neither of us missed the meat, and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. If a member of your party is a vegetarian, they’ll love this place and so will you, even if you aren’t!
The vegetarian pierogies are excellent, and all the dishes are beautifully presented. The staff was very pleasant, spoke English, and were happy to answer our questions and guide us through the menu.
They make a real effort to focus on fresh foods, appealing presentation, unique offerings, and rotating the menu seasonally. If you’re looking for a vegetarian restaurant in Poznan that won’t disappoint, check it out.
They are open until 10pm on Friday and Saturday, but have irregular hours on other days so be sure to check out times before you go, or better yet make a reservation to avoid a surprise if you are a late diner.
They have Facebook and Instagram pages which they keep current, and it’s worth checking them out to get a tantalizing peek at what’s in season.

In the Market Square
As of summer 2024, the Market Square has a gorgeous new face lift, and the restaurants that circle this historic town center have their beautiful views back. And of course, nothing says Poznan like the incredible Town Hall and its awesome and hilarious goat clock!
Here are two great places to grab a bite, have a cocktail, and soak in all the history, the beauty, and the charm of this amazing city center.
5. Ratuszova
Stary Rynek 55, 61-772 Poznań, Poland
Ratuszova is located right in the beating heart of Poznan, it’s old Market Square, making it a convenient way to end your day of sightseeing. Surrounded by the colorful and postcard-perfect buildings of the square, dining outside is the perfect choice if the weather allows it.
But don’t miss taking a peek inside, especially into the cellar. This building site has had a tumultuous history dating back over 700 years. Fire, flood, and war all took a toll, but the original gothic cellar vaults still exist in the basement dining room. I ate there with a large group and it was just gorgeous. It looked like something AI would have created, with frescoes on the ceiling, brick and stone walls, chandeliers, and a mystical magical eating-in-a-cave vibe.
The rest of the building was erected in the 1950s, after heavy damage during World War II, but blends beautifully with the historic feeling of the square.
The menu changes seasonally and features many Polish favorites, vegetarian options, and hearty roast meats and soup. I thoroughly enjoyed my pumpkin carpaccio, and roast duck with apples!
Service is top notch. We had a party of 16, and everything was handled smoothly and efficiently. They even broke everything down in to more than a dozen separate checks, which deserves some kind of award.
Open from noon to 10pm, Monday through Sunday, there’s also a Happy Hour from 5-6pm. Definitely make reservations! They do speak English, and reservations can also be arranged in advance via email.
But wait, there’s more! This historic building even offers lodging above the restaurant! You have to check out these full-on apartments with queen and sofa beds that you can claim as home base to explore the city! You can even get room service delivered from downstairs, and the rooms are pet friendly!

6. Restauracja Vis a Vis in Town Square
Stary Rynek 40, Poznan
If you had to pick one restaurant with the absolute best drop-dead view in Poznan, this is it. Vis a Vis sits directly in front of the Town Hall with its famous goat clock. If you happen to be sitting at one of the outside tables at noon, you’ll have a command performance as the doors open, the goats emerge, and butt heads as the trumpet sounds and the crowd cheers. It’s an absolutely unforgettable experience! You can read about the goat clock in my article on its history and legend.
I wondered if this place might be riding only on its view to draw customers, but I was pleasantly surprised that the food was great! We shared a paté appetizer that was scrumptious. Then I had a goat cheese salad that knocked my socks off! And my husband enjoyed the ribs as well. We were there in the spring, before outside tables made their appearance. There are only about six or seven inside tables so the atmosphere is intimate and cozy.
There are several tables inside just for two, and we found this to be a sweet and romantic spot for a late lunch and a glass of wine.

Steak
7. Evil Steakhouse
Podgórna 6, 61-829 Poznań, Poland – a 10 minute walk from Town Hall in the center of the Market Square.
As Americans living in European ‘pork country’, we’ve noticed it can be difficult to find a really good steak. I didn’t have my expectations high when we found a steakhouse in Poznan, but boy was I delightfully surprised!
Welcome to ‘Steakhouse Evil’ which features locally sourced Polish beef of every description. From Ribeye to Tomahawk to Tenderloin, to Wagyu, you’ll find a steak that speaks to you. There are also steak platters for four people. The wait staff is very friendly and will help you (in English) to assemble the perfect platter for your party.
I had the tenderloin which was perfectly cooked, came with a side of herb butter, a photo-worthy side salad and onion rings. I wouldn’t have changed a single thing. The beef was flavorful, juicy, salty and satisfying. And the melty herb butter put it over the top!
They do offer some very tasty meatless sides, entree salads with beef, shrimp, or veggies; and even ostrich and tuna, but as the name suggests, steak is the overwhelming focus – and they do it well! You can check out the menu here.
We came to the restaurant in a party of eight, everyone ordered something different, and not one person at the table had a bad thing to say.
This place works for a date night spot, or a group of friends. Definitely a don’t-miss if you’re jonesing for a really great steak.

8. Kuchnia Marche
Not every restaurant is a destination location. Sometimes it’s all about convenience and proximity. This experience is in the mall. And not just any mall – Poznania, the largest shopping center in Poland. It is absolutely immense! I heard from locals that people actually fly into Poznan just to go shopping here, and I believe it. This one has almost 300 stores and is about 3.45 million square feet making it one of the biggest shopping centers in all of Europe!
And while you’re shopping ’til you drop, don’t miss the opportunity for this tucked away buffet restaurant that is the Golden Corral of Poland (only WAY better food!)
Kuchnia Marche is a chain of buffet restaurants that serve cafeteria style. Load up your plate with all kinds of fabulous Polish food – pierogies, potatoes, and pork – oh my! There is also an island of Asian food, and an amazing dessert selection. Then they weigh your plate at the end and you pay accordingly. Is this gourmet fare? No way. But my husband and I stuffed our faces, and each had a bottle of water all for about $28.
You can see our lunches in the photo below. Definitely a great value, and a fun experience!
9. Pyra Bar
ul. Strzelecka 13 Poznan
The Pyra Bar (Potato Bar), located in the Old Town of Poznan, began when a self-described “fearless group of tuber enthusiasts” opened a restaurant whose menu is focused on the humble potato. Poland consumes more potatoes per capita than any other country, and used to be the largest potato producer, until China took its place. Potatoes feature so heavily in Polish life that there are no less than 120 words for potato in Polish.
So Poland knows how to do potatoes, and you know that when the guy working the desk at the Potato Museum tells you this is the place to go for potatoes, you’d better go!
Potato casserole, potato pancakes, sweet potatoes, vegetarian potato dishes, meat lovers potato dishes, it’s a veritable Bubba Gump of spuds! You can even order a shot of potato vodka which comes in a cute little shot glass with its own saucer!
Dress is casual, prices are super-affordable with many dishes running about $5, and portions are plenty!
My favorite thing so far is the potato casserole with chicken, broccoli and thick, creamy bechamel sauce covered in sizzling mozzarella cheese. Absolutely addictive.
There’s a small outdoor garden area in the back which is lovely when weather permits, and you’ll also find a hilarious photo opp!

Cafés
10. Weranda Caffe
Świętosławska 10, 61-870 Poznan
Here’s another gem right near the center of Old Town! The Weranda Caffe forces you to make a choice right away. Do you want to sit at a cute marble cafe table on the street looking down the cobblestones to the incredible facade of the Fara Church? Do you want to eat inside in their eclectic artistic dining room, or do you want to sit out back in the gorgeous green and pink garden? Deciding is a good problem to have!
It’s a blissful spot to while away some time sipping a cappuccino or ordering a full-blown meal. Or if it’s a hot day, you can indulge a little bit with some white chocolate pistachio ice cream with fresh raspberry sauce!
The full menu for Weranda Café is here, but this place is absolutely charming and a great place to take a break from your day and enjoy the atmosphere and the food!

Bonus!
11. 7 Continents Café in the Poznan Palm House
This one is truly unique. When was the last time you had a cappuccino and a slice of walnut cake in a jungle while observing an ecosystem full of busy leaf-cutter ants? If your answer is “never” then you really need to fix that!
The 7 Continents Café is located in the Poznan Palm House, one of the oldest plant conservatories in Europe, and this amazing café is a must-stop to keep the relaxed tropical vibe going after your visit. Surrounded by lush greenery, it offers an opportunity to sit, relax and enjoy some delicious sweet treats like cakes, Polish pastries and coffee.
And if your timing is good, you can snag the table by the leaf cutter ants’ tube and have live entertainment while you snack!
The 7 Continents Café is open Tuesday – Sunday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. You will have to pay the admission to get into the Palm House which is about $4.00 US. It’s really worth it to explore the vast and diverse ecosystems inside, and just for the experience and photo opps the café will provide.
